For some, the concept that Assos needed another bibshort option seem a little far-fetched. The line-up is deep and packed with technologies. Still, at $210 race level bibshort, in an "entry-level" format has actually been well received. Ideal for proper training and actual racing, the Equipe R Bib Short S9, delivers many of the key technologies and construction techniques of the RS and RSR models, albeit with different fabrics and/or details. This is a bibshort with a true raceFit, features, and materials.
The Equipe R is built with an Assos signature A-Lock Engineering construction that adapts technologies from the WorldTour-proven Equipe RS. It maintains racingFit stability with a muscle-wrapping butterfly panel around the body and upper legs, maximizing a new Type.443 textile, which compresses and breathes like the Equipe RS, but with a deeper black color. A monofilament elastic in the bib straps reduces weight and dries faster than dual-layer models, and the shorts are equipped with a core S9 racing chamois insert.
This is all supported and suspended for engineered comfort, with Assos X-Frame bib strap construction. Inherited from the Equipe from RS line, the Equipe R Bib Shorts S9 offer an incredibly secure and comfortable fit. This integral system design prevents sagging, maintains the seat pad in a perfect position and keeps the fit locked in during bouts of intense cycling. Monofilament elastic used in the bib straps also keeps the weight low, provides a secure fit and dries incredibly quickly too. Around the waist, you'll find the zeroPressure Waist technology, a set-up that provides an impressively comfortable and flexible fit but one that remains securely in place without restriction or pinching. The waist system also features an upgraded Tech Sheen Mesh area, improving breathability in areas that overheat fastest.
Of course nothing is more important to any cyclist than the seat pad. For a more aggressive racing posture, the pad must be placed perfectly, and be complemented by the overall bibshort concept and construction, to match the form of the rider contact zone with the saddle. The Equipe R S9 Seat Pad is made for comfort on bike rides of any length. Thermoformed 9mm foam offers a smooth fit and both support and shock-absorbing comfort while also being breathable. The pad also makes use of the Assos 3D Waffle construction, with three-layer, perforated foam giving excellent breathability while eliminating excess bulk. And to keep the pad in your ideal saddle contact zone, it actually moves via goldenGate construction. This set-up keeps the insert anchored front and back, while allowing the pad to otherwise move in harmony with your body movements- rather than against them.
