Description

"The DNA of Assos is the racing bike. Without it we wouldn't be doing what we do. It's our raison d'ĕtre (reason for existence)."
That's a direct quote from the Assos commander and chief. And as a research and design company, the G733 Goomah completes the circle of rider, apparel and now bike and create perfect synergy. Many riders (including some of our staff), consider the G733 as the ultimate interpretation of the road frameset, and for good reason. It's lightweight, stiff but compliant, stable and has unmatched style, all in one tight package. Like a perfected production race car, G733 framesets are made in small batch, low volume production runs. This allows for precise quality control and perfect execution with each frameset.
The unique frame construction sports a proprietary UD carbon and 3K carbon weave called Matrix Surface Mapping. This design blends these two different carbons borrowing the strength from each to create a frame that is stiff for optimized power output, yet compliant for long range comfort and perfect handling manners (or as Assos puts it: "hugs the road like a snake"). UD is rigid while 3K tends to be damp and more forgiving. Blending of these two carbons results in perfect handling and performance. The front triangle features optimized shaped tubes that offer a stiff frame that has little torsional deflection, but still remains vertically compliant for a smooth ride. Super thin and triangular seat stays add to the compliant ride quality by enhancing performance through passive suspension through the natural flex and dampening of the small carbon stays. These combined fabrication methods and careful carbon selection brings the frame weight down to a scant 980 grams for a size medium.
The G733 addresses an issue of bike frame design that has been around since the dawn of the modern bicycle. We'll explain. Unlike an automobile which has the drivetrain running down the center of the chassis to supply power to the wheels, the bicycle has the drivetrain placed on the right side of the frameset. This means the power transfer is supplied to the wheels on the right side of the bike only, which creates unbalanced ride properties. In an effort to evenly distribute the power and torque and provide a balanced ride, the G733 features a proprietary design known as the Asymmetric Power Balance Compensator. This clever approach features non-drive chainstay that has a far denser UD carbon composition and 5mm larger in width, which creates a stiffer stay than the opposing drive-side chainstay. This helps balance the uneven torque load to create harmony and equilibrium, thus resulting in a surprisingly quiet, stable and zen-like ride quality.
All tube shapes of the main frame are optimized for both torsional rigidity and vertical compliance with an eye on aerodynamics. A proprietary tapered fork fits perfectly into the headtube/downtube cross section for a perfected aerodynamic profile with minimal air disturbance. Variable wall thickness and carbon steerer tube offers precise steering input keeps the weight down to a feathery 329 grams.
Looking towards scalability, the G733 Goomah has a modular cable attachment system that allows you to use a mechanical or electronic wiring system depending on which type of shifting you prefer. And in case you decide on electronic, the underside of the BB has a large hatch that allows access to the inside of the seat tube, to internally mount your Di2 or EPS battery. All of the routing is internal for aerodynamics and a clean aesthetic. The brake routing uses Goomah's Flat Path style routing which routes the cable in direct route of the calipers for a solid and tactile lever feel. The bottom bracket uses the BB386EVO standard which does a nice job at optimizing your center of gravity. We include BB adapters for those riders who require the use of SRAM and Shimano cranks (read: everyone), so you end up with the best of both worlds.
Given the amount of obsession that went into the G733 Goomah, you'll be hard pressed to find a bike that has a better quality ride and construction. There was not expense spared in this limited production frameset. From performance to compliance and comfort and low weight, the Goomah proves through good design, one frame can have it all.
