The new Record mechanical ErgoPower shifters feature re-worked internals with a new shift mechanism and a new hood texture. Campagnolo also updated the composition of the lever body for improved strength to better survive crashes. Front shifting when paired with the new front derailleur is now simply sublime. New changes mean the front ErgoPower lever will use two lever clicks to drop down from the large chainring to the small ring. There is then a third click will add extra trim for the largest cogs. The reasoning behind this is to virtually eliminate dropped chains and to have the smoothest shifting possible so the Ergopower controls become an extension of the rider.

Other changes include brake lever hoods with variable density and a more grippy surface texture made from hypo-allergenic silicone with differentiated areas to follow the grip of the 1st and 2nd finger. The grooved areas help to drain away water and keep the brake lever hoods dry improving grip. An internal weave creates a variable thickness (Vari Cushion) that guarantees maximum possible comfort.

Several features carry over from the previous model including the shape of the body specially engineered to maximize comfort and control in all hand positions. The carbon brake lever retains the two cutouts and a "S" bend shape that allows powerful braking whether you are riding on the hoods or tops. A special insert continues to be supplied that increases the distance of the lever by 8% to create more space for large hands.

Campagnolo is the only mechanical groupset on the market that allows multiple shifting up to five cogs at a time. This is a particular nice feature for folks in hilly areas as fewer lever movements are required to keep on the gas.

For the best functionality, Campagnolo recommends matching 2015 and newer shifters, derailleurs, bottom bracket cups and cranks. This newest generation of parts will feature a squared letter, which in the case of the shifters, is located on the side of the lever body underneath the hood.
