Since the advent of the famed Gabba protection series, the Castelli design team has worked with multiple fabrics and style options across a range of short and long sleeve jersey-jackets and vests. The Perfetto line is the current Gabba-feature product series and the Perfetto RoS Light represents the lightest weight short-sleeve wind protection, short sleeve option. It was requested by pro team riders who, it must be mentioned- can have niche needs at times, but is applicable to a wide range of serious enthusiasts. Think of it as a protection series vest, with short sleeves. You get blocking on the front facing areas, excellent stretch and fit, with water resistance throughout. It is ideal for cooler summer and early shoulder season use when periodic or short term protection is needed. Training pro's also love it for long descents.
The Perfetto RoS Light has been updated from it's original version, with lighter weight overall, thanks to thinner, but more effective fabrics. You can easily stuff it into a jersey pocket as insurance before any questionable mild weather ride. Thanks to the use of GORE-TEX INFINIUM™ WINDSTOPPER® 203 Stretch lightweight fabric on front and sleeves, you get better wind and rain protection and overall breathability. On the back Castelli utilizes their Nano Flex Light Woven fabric for breathable stretch with good water protection. While not an insulated fabric set, as with all protection garments it prevents inflow of cold air and helps you maintain heat. The excellent breathability ensures you get moisture build up while maintaining better core and torso temperature.
As always, Castelli dominates the details, with the YKK Vislon zipper, a Gabba-style dropped tail with reflective material as well as moderate height Gabba shaped collar. Given that you generally wear it over a standard jersey, the designers opted for two larger rear pockets with a pump sleeve. Easy to access while riding and large enough for whatever you prefer to carry, the system is a great addition. The rear of the waist hem holds in place with a very effective elastic gripper system. Castelli suggests the useful temperature range of 54°-68°F, which seems about right for most users. You also have use case flexibility, such as with just a baselayer, the Perfetto RoS Light is a wind-protection jersey for mild conditions. Alternatively, you use it like a vest over a jersey to gain the blocking and precipitation protection at the front and over your shoulders.
