If there is a flagship of the non-race Castelli short sleeve jersey line-up it is the Superleggera 2. This is the jersey that brings Castelli's fabric and construction engineering together in one of the most refined jerseys the Italian company has ever made. The goal with the Superleggera 2 was to make it as light as possible without sacrificing transparency, sun protection and convenient and desired features like a zippered key pocket. To ensure the construction could deliver on all the goals, the designers brought in a new fabric they call Oltre, which roughly translates to "beyond", because it truly exceeds what you'd normally find in a jersey, with the horizontal sections giving great breathability and stretch for incredible fit while providing good support for the pockets at the back.
Oltre allowed the team to engineer the piece with no-sew construction around the sleeves and hem and the close attention to detail in every stitch, seam and component. It's designed with a fit that is close to body, but slightly more relaxed than Castelli's pure race jerseys. The shape and cut feel natural, especially in the cycling position. All the details are here. Open mesh zones in the underarm area keep you cooler and drier. The waist and sleeve trim utilize a no-sew welded seam for smoother, cleaner transitions. The pocket structure is floating, with stretch woven reinforcement. The standard 3-pocket pro system is accentuated by the secure zip key pocket on the vertical seam of the right side. A long pull make it easy to open and close. Finally, a fantastic vertical, sublimated overprint Superleggera logo runs up the back, evoking a graphic effect and look that is more race car than cycling jersey. All of the details on this jersey are superb, with excellent finishing and aesthetics.
