Description
The latest Áspero has been updated with several enhancements including a threaded bottom bracket, cleaner cable routing, and a Universal Derailleur Hanger compatible with SRAM’s Transmission drivetrains. It’s also been designed to be more aerodynamic. For the Áspero, aerodynamics focus more on conserving energy rather than just cutting speed due to reduced drag. The modest energy savings of three watts after battling a headwind all day could mean consuming one fewer energy gel—a worthwhile benefit.
Further improvements include lowered seat stays for increased rear compliance and a slight reduction in front-end stiffness, easing the strain during the final hours of a long race. Additional clearance for mud was also incorporated, drawing on lessons from the R5-CX and the muddy conditions at Unbound 2023. These may seem like minor adjustments, but collectively, they significantly enhance the bike's performance. The outcome is a model that stays true to the original Áspero's essence but offers greater speed, comfort, and versatility.
Designed specifically for drop bar riders, SRAM’s 1x-specific XPLR drivetrains optimize gear ratios. These drivetrains target the ideal gearing range. By pairing an 11-44T or 10-44T cassette with a compatible derailleur, riders benefit from a wide range suitable for gravel climbs and responsive jumps during high-speed road riding.
The XPLR rear derailleur is purpose-built for 1x setups, compatible with XPLR 10-44T or 11-44T cassettes.
For riders seeking versatility, the XPLR 10-44T and 11-44T cassettes offer a generous 440% gear range. Whether tackling gravel climbs or accelerating on asphalt, the optimized cog shift features ensure smooth and efficient transitions. SRAM’s direct mount cranksets, featuring lightweight and rigid 1x chainrings (ranging from 38T to 46T), position the gear range optimally. The X-SYNC narrow-wide chainring technology keeps the chain secure, while a wider stance option maximizes tire clearance.
Return to TopFeatures
- The Aspero retains the essence of early gravel riding while incorporating several enhancements. Notably, it features a threaded bottom bracket shell, streamlined cable routing, and a UDH-compatible derailleur hanger for SRAM’s Transmission drivetrains.
- Additionally, the redesign has reduced drag by three watts.
- The seat stays have been lowered to enhance compliance, and the front-end stiffness has been slightly reduced for improved comfort during long races.
- The Aspero provides additional mud clearance, accommodating up to a 45mm tire according to ISO standards.
- While ISO mandates a minimum 4mm clearance, real-world conditions sometimes necessitate more.
- The Aspero was initially designed for 42mm tires, but an extra 3mm of clearance has been added, allowing riders to push it to 45mm if desired.
