Description
With the release of 12-Speed 105 Di2 components, Shimano can now offer the semi-wireless electronic shifting in all three upper tier road groups. With precision and speed from the Di2 shifting system, and reliable, sure all-conditions disc braking with the R7170 hydraulic disc calipers, Shimano allows you to power your carbon Cervelo Soloist through season after season of speed and developmental riding, while keeping in control regardless of the descent grades or rainy weather. Built off of the same carbon frameset that higher end Soloist bikes feature, with the ability to upgrade to a higher level electronic shifting system, this bike is ideal for an every day road cyclist or junior or low Cat rider getting started in serious road cycling.
Cervelo's original Soloist design took it's cues from the their earliest pure NACA aero triathlon bikes. It evolved from aluminum to carbon and eventually became the S-series, winning podiums and stages at every step. The design evolved and NACA shapes became the squarer D-shape flat back improved tube shapes that also added more torsional stiffness and some more compliance. Cervelo has recognized the need for a new Soloist, one designed with beginning and developing racers in mind, along with every day enthusiasts who desire the best blend of aerodynamics, comfort, simplicity in adjustment and service. Now the reimagined Soloist hits the scene, at a reachable price point, great build options, and carrying the the essence of Cervelo's history and dedication to the cycling experience.
The return of the Soloist was just a matter of time. Ideally placed price wise, and engineered with clean aerodynamics taken from the S5, but counter-balanced with elements of the R5, including the geometry, the Soloist is the perfect option for an everyday road cyclist who seeks speed and enjoyment while powering through a 2-hour favored loop. It is also the ideal bike for developing cyclists learning to race and applying their physical abilities to get stronger, faster, and more comfortable taking corners at speed and riding in a tight peloton.
Design features of the Soloist favor the modern cycling scene with clearance for wider rims and 34mm road tires if desired. While having a super clean cockpit and internal routing for either mechanical or electronic shifting, a new headset system allows the rider to swap and adjust stems easily, without having to bleed disc brake lines. Compliance comes from the R5 tubeset and lay-up influences, and pedal power transfer is exceptional via the asymmetric chainstays and BBright T47a threaded bottom bracket junction. This Cervelo-specific T47 system is easily removed for cleaning or maintenance, and if properly fastened in place, should be dead quiet. A thrill to ride, easy to adjust and maintain, the Soloist is back, but better.
Shimano's 12-Speed 105 R7170 features some of the same upgrades as the top-level components, yet simplifies a few key points. The shifting is fast, reliable, and precise, with the Di2 junction and controls now built into the rear derailleur. Disc braking serves you in all conditions, is easy to service and prevents heat build up that can cause disc brakes to fade. The power of the brakes controls a Fulcrum Racing DB alloy wheelset that is tubeless compatible, responsive and perfect for every day training year-round. Cervelo supplies the cockpit with an alloy bar and stem, as well as their D-shaped aero SP27 carbon seatpost, which carries a Selle Italia Model X SuperFlow saddle. This Soloist was built for great rideability, performance and speed out of the box, while delivering on Cervelo's commitment to creating the most efficient, best riding road bikes to more cyclists.
