The SES system was predicated on designing aerodynamic rims that matched the individual requirements of front and rear wheels. The 54mm profile front rim (along with the tire) is the leading edge into the wind, and more exposed in crosswinds, so it must be stable and handle properly while attacking, cornering and descending. The front's internal rim width is 20mm, but the external width is 29mm at the widest part of the curved shape. The 63mm deep rear wheel has different aerodynamic requirements, needed to manage substantial agitated air around the seattube and from pedaling action while carrying cleaner air back. This not only keeps flow smooth and reduces drag, but also harnesses it for a slight push forward as well. A 19mm internal rim width is used, and this taller rear rim also has a slightly narrower wide point, at 28mm. As the rear wheel is fixed in the rear triangle, cornering forces and crosswinds are less of an issue than for the front wheel. SES also takes into account various frame designs, attempting to find proper width and shape to work best with great range of tube shapes on the market.

Enve's carbon layup process, continual fiber concept, and molded openings (as opposed to drilling) has proven to deliver durable, lightweight aero carbon rims that can handle high spoke tension, is resilient to road and debris impacts, and maintains integrity beyond most expectations in many emergency situations. Engagement is handled with a 40t ratchet-style drive system that delivers efficient and responsive power transmission in a highly reliable, virtually maintenance free package, optimized flange spacing and geometry for responsive and optimally stiff wheel builds that inspire confidence when accelerating and cornering. The free hub body is machined from 7075 alloy and hard anodized to reduce cog bite.

Enve is using the lightly bladed Sapim CX-Ray spokes, which are fast, resilient, forgiving and lightweight, as well their own proprietary external brass nipples. Both wheels are feature 24 spokes, laced 2x/2x all around for excellent drive force, wheel balance, and effective countering of the hub-based disc braking force. The freehub is an interchangeable system and offered in Shimano or XDR as a complete wheel, with a Campy body available as a replacement item.
