Description
Fox has developed a full series of liner options. Direct feedback from sponsored riders, and dedicated research has fully informed the designers of the weaknesses of most traditional liner products. With this line, Fox demonstrates that a great liner requires the same level of engineering and detailed design that high end cycling shorts and bibs receive in today's highly competitive market. The Evolution Liner Short is a throwdown statement that Fox is a player to be reckoned with. At a quick glance it would be easy to believe that the Evolution is a standard top notch cycling short. The anatomically correct panelization, the flat lock stitching and wide elastic compression gripper are exactly what you'd expect from a performance cycling short. The only visual cue that this could be a different animal is the exterior facing wide elastic waist band with the Fox logos. If you want to learn more, you have to pick it up, and take a closer look.
You will first notice how light the Evolution is. The technical polyester/spandex blended fabric is thin, and soft, but delivers exceptional stretch and recovery. This isn't a true compression piece, but you will get solid muscle support at all times. As you look closely at the panels, you will see the orientation of the woven fabric changes depending on where it is located, and how the body will stretch and pull during cycling activity. This selective process keeps the fit secure and the muscles supported throughout. A stretch mesh upper rear panel adds more active moisture release and airflow. With the soft hand and light material, stitching could be an issue, but Fox's use of the flat lock technique keeps seams low profile to eliminate chafing and irritation. The waist elastic has a soft inner finish, and the width helps distribute control over a wider area, so you won't feel the waistband digging into you.The wide compression bands on the leg openings are essentially a folded over fabric that provides twice as much compression as the rest of the leg, keeping a grip on your leg and a nice smooth transition for your external short to ride over.
With fit and form covered, the designers had to provide a chamois pad that would conform and shape the body, stay as cool and dry as possible, and provide excellent protection. The Evo Men's foam pad is a dual density design- more where you need it, less where you don't. The pad doesn't retain much moisture or chafe against the skin. The pad integrates beautifully with the anatomical design, especially when you are on the saddle with pressure on the pad and a little bit of hip angle.
The Fox Evolution liner is a perfect lightweight, cooling liner short for those who expect maximum performance, but don't want to wear a warmer, much more expensive cycling short under their baggies. The material is tougher than it seems and won't get chewed up by seams on your outer short. Fox has delivered an excellent liner, with genuine high-end cycling feel and function, at a terrific price.
