The Garmin Varia Rearview Radar is the world's first cycling radar that warns of approaching vehicles from up to 153 yards. Cyclists are giving this new technology a big thumbs up with many glowingly positive reviews. Rearview Radar lets you the speed and distance of up to eight cars approaching from behind. Varia Rearview Radar also contains an integrated tail light that brightens and flashes as a car approaches. It works like this. When no cars are detected, just the two lights in the center of the 10 LED bar are illuminated. As the radar senses an approaching vehicle is getting closer to passing, the light bar grows to all 10 LED light up warning the approaching traffic of a cyclist ahead. The taillight has a manual mode as well.

This bundle with the Head unit can be used independently and also wirelessly integrates with the Garmin Edge 1000, Edge 25, Edge 520, Edge Explore 1000 as well as the Varia Vision In-sight Display. The Head Unit provides battery status in addition to showing up to eight approaching cars and their distance. When there are no cars behind the light glows green. Approaching cars turn the light to yellow while dots show the relative position of the cars behind. A car closing at an unusually high speed will turn the status indicator to red allowing you to take quick action if needed. Pairing the Rearview Radar with a compatible Edge uses the same color system displayed along the vertical sides (except not on the Edge 25 because it lacks a color display) plus the Edge computers make audible sounds with a warning beep and a different all clear chirp when it becomes clear behind.
