Description

The Giro Sector Shoe is the MTB sole sibling of the Regime road shoe, and oddly enough both share a similar middle group of users- the gravel market. Both shoes offer features that Gravel/Adventure riders desire, but some prefer a road shoe platform like the Regime while other favor the more versatile Sector. Many cyclists may well choose to own both for various reasons, but the most prominent rationale is the balance of fit, comfort and performance that is shared between the platforms- and that starts with the upper technology and build.

The Sector features Giro supple, breathable monofilament Synchwire™ tech fabric a with thermo-bonded exo-structure that cradles and supports the upper. This system offers wonderful fit and all-day comfort that is crucial for both XC course challenges and the very nature of gravel and adventure riding. Of course, for these more aggressive terrain challenges, the upper features reinforced heel and toe sections to ensure impact safety and long term durability. The fit is ensured and controlled by the dual BOA® L6 dials, which feature 1 mm adjustment and macro release, guided by the proven steel wire and proper anatomic placement of the soft lace guides. The final piece of the upper and fit must include the supportive 3D-molded footbed with medium level arch support and an Aegis® anti-microbial treatment

For pedaling efficiency and energy transfer a stout carbon-composite plate sole is used. It is more cost effective (keeping overall price more reasonable) yet strikes a functional balance of stiffness, vibration damping properties and durability at a reasonably light weight while delivering the power platform and stiffness necessary for 2-bolt cleat systems. The tread it carries is an aggressive, dual-injected rubber outsole for excellent traction that won't de-laminate or break down. The material is remarkably resilient and durable despite it's light weight. The outsole does accept toe spikes, making it a truly functional option for cyclocross and muddy or soft XC race events. Giro uses stainless steel hardware for the spike threads as well as the plate and dual sets of adjustable cleat mounting receivers.

At 342 grams (size 42), the Sector is weight-competitive and truly functional across the board. The upper breathes, and will deflect water, mud and grime, though it it not waterproof. The walkability, overall traction, and comfort is a step above stiffer high-end XC race shoes, with greater durability. It is this balance that makes the Sector so versatile and a great all-around shoe you can rely on in rough conditions over long distances regardless of what discipline, or combination of disciplines you take on.
