The key to reducing rolling resistance lies in the innovative Swift Easy Casing construction. This casing wraps around the bead and bonds directly to the center polyamide puncture-resistant layer, unlike regular tires with overlapping structures. The final layer of the casing wraps the beads on both sides to reduce air leakage. The Swift Easy Casing secures the overlapping of the 127 TPI casing into two layers, providing greater flexibility in contact, improving rolling resistance and comfort, and reducing weight. The result is an ultra-fast, comfortable, and lightweight Hutchinson Blackbird road tire that weighs just 290 grams for a 28 mm tire.

Another groundbreaking technology debuting with the Hutchinson Blackbird road tire is the Mach Tread 3.0, Hutchinson's most advanced and efficient tread compound. This new compound offers incredibly low rolling resistance and high rebound force, increasing energy return by 25% on road contact. Mach Tread 3.0 is 10% harder than the previous 11 Storm Compound, enhancing resistance and extending the lifespan to over 4000 km. Despite its hardness, it maintains the same level of grip as previous generations. The design accommodates contemporary rim widths, with the tread being 15% wider than previous generation tires. Combined with the more flexible Swift Easy Casing, the tire and road contact area is wider laterally than front-to-back, resulting in aggressive cornering and reduced rolling resistance.
