Description
The Mavic Crossmax SL is a very light, stiff and responsive wheel thanks to several Mavic technologies. Rim weight and inertia are the lowest in class thanks to an ISM 4D rim where all unnecessary material is remove saving about 50 grams without compromising strength. There is simply no other 29er wheel this light that is this stiff.
Stiffness is exceptional bordering on amazing for a 29er wheel due to the quality rim and oversize aluminum Zircal spokes which are incredibly light, stiff and strong. Zircal is a specific aluminum alloy that provides spokes with higher stiffness-to-weight ratio while being stronger.
Included with the wheel are adapters so it can be used with quick release or 142x12mm thru axle frames. It has a UST tubeless rim that so you can use tubeless tires with sealant or a regular tire and inner tube. Quality QRM+ bearings are super smooth and can be adjust while on the bike very easily with the included bearing adjustment tool.
Mavic uses Isopulse lacing where the spokes are laced radially on the drive side and crossed 2 on the non-drive side to maximize drive side dish, thus providing a better spoke tension balance between left and right flanges. This creates higher stiffness under heavy loads for crystal clear energy transmission and a stronger overall wheel that will stay tensioned and true.
The Crossmax SL uses the ITS-4 (Instant Transfer System 4) which is a stronger, faster system compared to their road wheels. ITS-4 uses 4 pawls working 2 by 2 to provide a quicker return to power, thanks to a very fast engagement. This provides better energy transmission and faster engagement with only 7.5º of freeplay between two engaged positions.
