This wheel features a new optimized rim extrusion with ISM weight reduction. Rim strength is provided by a Maxtal alloy exclusive to Mavic. This specific aluminum alloy offers a higher strength to weight ratio - Mavic claims 30% stronger - than conventional 6016 alloy. Instead of being drilled, the lower rim bridge is pushed up on the inside, then threaded to enable the spoke nipples to be directly screwed in it, leaving the upper rim bridge intact. This process called Fore drilling makes the rim 4 times more resistant to fatigue stress with a 20% increase in the rim rigidity to maximize power transfer.

ISM milling is a technology pioneered by Mavic. In this case, it involves the machining of the lower bridge of the rim between each spoke hole to create a light and rigid rim without reducing the durability of the rim. The ISM process saves about 40 grams of all important rotating weight. This reduces inertia for better acceleration.

Another secret to Mavic's hallmark light and stiff wheels are the oversize Zircal aluminum spokes. Zircal spokes are lighter than steel for easier climbing. They are also stiffer spokes for better energy transmission and stronger spokes for increased durability.
