Description
Building up a 29er or 700c gravel wheel and need a great rim? Mavic still offers rims for folks that choose to build their wheels to personal specification. The XM 819 Disc Rim has a stout design, with reasonable weight. It is not tubeless compatible but we find many riders still prefer to run a tube. Don't believe the rumors these cyclists still prefer 8-speed drivetrains as well. Many new and crusty old riders eschew tubeless.
When you buy a Mavic rim you get proven construction methods, materials, and technologies. You get Maxtal aluminum alloy, which is stronger and more resilient to fatigue and impact, which has a welded, milled joint. The disc rim has standard drilling, and a single eyelet design. At 510 grams for a 29er rim, the XM 819 has high strength to weight ratio, and can be run with tires as wide as 2.5". Mavic recommends using 12mm nipples and 20mm wide rim tape. If you have questions about hubs or a build, please give us a call during business hours and one our experienced cyclists can assist you.
