Description
Park Tool developed their own line of threadlocking and retaining compounds. The purpose was to meet the specific requirements of the bike world, with the materials used and components heavily factored in. The AP-1 is effectively a surface prep that accelerates curing of the actual retaining compound so safe work times are shorter, with less waiting, and when used properly, creates a more comprehensive and effective bond. It was designed for maximum performance of the Park Tool TLR-1 and TLR-2 Threadlockers as well as the RC-1 Retaining Compound (for PressFit bearing systems). For the latter, the product also ensures safe removal of the Press Fit cups used in carbon fiber frames. Directly from Park: Must be used on all component, fastener and carbon fiber surfaces in conjunction with threadlockers and retaining compounds that contact carbon fiber such as PF30 bottom brackets or brackets or bearings pressed into carbon fiber frames. Failure to do so could result in permanently bonded parts. It is safe to say you want to completely read the instructions before using any of the compounds.
The 1.01 fluid once (30 ml) bottle features an integrated fine brush for application purposes, and judging by the liquidity, a bottle of the AP-1 will go a long way. You will always want to handle and use the product with protective gloves on, and preferably eye protection as well. Park Tool does have the MSDS available on their website.
