Description

Threaded interfaces on bikes create perfect conditions for corrosion and seizing. Steel bolts in aluminum frames, titanium seatposts in steel tubes, pedal threads in crank arms—any time you have dissimilar metals in contact with each other, galvanic corrosion becomes a matter of when, not if. Park Tool's ASC-1 Anti-Seize Compound addresses this with a copper-based formula that creates a barrier between metal surfaces while maintaining enough lubricity for proper torque readings during assembly.

The compound works on threaded fasteners, seat tubes, quill stems, and any metal-to-metal interface where future disassembly matters. Apply a thin layer to pedal threads before installation, and they'll back out years later instead of requiring a cheater bar and heat gun. Same goes for bottom bracket threads, headset races, and the interface between steel steerer tubes and aluminum stems. The copper particles in the formula fill microscopic surface irregularities, preventing the metal-to-metal contact that leads to galling and seizing.

ASC-1 handles temperature extremes that would break down standard greases. The formula stays stable from well below freezing through the heat generated by press-fit interfaces and brake systems, which matters for applications like disc brake rotor bolts and caliper mounts. Unlike general-purpose grease, anti-seize maintains its protective properties over years of exposure to road salt, sweat, and the galvanic activity that occurs whenever moisture reaches dissimilar metals....
