Description

Crank bolts come in different configurations depending on the crankset design, and the Park Tool CCW-5 handles the 14mm hex fitting found on a wide range of self-extracting crank arm bolts. This socket-style wrench fits over the crank bolt head and engages the internal hex pattern, letting you tighten or remove the bolt without hunting for a standard hex key that might not have the engagement depth to reach. The 3/8-inch drive fitting on the back accepts any standard ratchet handle, breaker bar, or torque wrench—your choice depending on whether you're installing with precise torque specs or removing a bolt that hasn't moved in years.

Self-extracting crank bolts use the bolt itself to push the crank arm off the spindle taper as you unthread it, eliminating the need for a separate crank puller tool. The CCW-5 reaches into the recessed bolt pocket where standard hex keys often bottom out before fully engaging the fastener. That full engagement matters when you're applying the torque these bolts require—typically in the 30-40 Nm range depending on the crankset manufacturer's specifications.

The 14mm hex size shows up on cranksets from Shimano, FSA, Race Face, and several other manufacturers using self-extracting systems. If you're unsure whether your crank bolts use this interface, measure across the flats of the hex pattern inside the bolt head. The CCW-5 won't work on external-bearing cranksets that use an 8mm hex bolt or the splined preload caps found on many modern two-piece crank systems—those require different tools entirely....
