One of the industries best all-mountain helmets just got better. Take the standard Trabec Race and add MIPS technology, and you have the ultimate in protection. For those unfamiliar with MIPS, these four letters are an acronym for Multi-directional Impact Protection System which is designed to reduce the rotational forces to the brain in the case of an oblique impact. By oblique impact, we mean slanting, sideways or non-parallel impact. What does all that really mean you might ask. We'll explain. MIPS is a thin liner that rests inside the helmet and directly against your head. This liner and the shell of the helmet are separated by a low friction layer which allows the helmet to slide relative to the head during an angled impact. This simple design is comfortable and works. Due to POC's hyper-focus on safety, adopting MIPS was an easy choice. Beyond the inclusion of the MIPS liner, all other features of the Octal stay the same.
The Trabec Race is a well-ventilated in- mold helmet that combines functionality and performance. The helmet is optimized for higher speeds and heavy usage where the Aramid fiber grid covers larger areas of the core for increased protection. The construction is similar to the trabecular bone structure, which has excellent resistance and durability. The inner EPS core is reinforced with aramid filaments maing it tough and resilient. The outer PC shell is constructed with the seams logically located in the areas of least exposure.
