Description
For those cyclists and bike builders who live for the details in the name of aesthetics and frame preservation, PRO created their Chainstay Protection Set. it is a simple kit, but very effective, especially for road bike use. Not every cyclist has a kit box of individual pieces at home to work with, so the set is quite handy.
The first and most desired item is a clear stick-on chainstay protector. This simple item is durable enough to prevent you chainstay from accidental chain drops or serious chain slap while riding over bumpy surfaces. At 260mm long, you can easily position it for optimal coverage. Just clean your frame clear of grease and dirt, then wipe with a rubbing alcohol pad, let it dry, peel of the backing and apply. Two small oval protectors are also supplied at ares where housing rub is common, such as along the headtube. PRO ups the ante with four housing protectors which you can use wherever your brake or derailleur housing rubs against your frame. These flexible rubber sleeves are slit lengthwise for easy installation. Three sets of three cable donuts are included, to keep cables off your frame. These need to be installed when running new cables, but they work great and are worth the time to install and position.
Finally, PRO includes eight crimpable cable ends; four each of derailleur and brake cable sizes, so you can cleanly finish your cables off and prevent fraying. These are super helpul to have on hand as they do fall off, and need to be replaced if you shorten cables, as you might after you adjust cables after initial settling in a few rides after installation. This $12 Chainstay Protection Set is all about convenience and protection. It is ideal for any road cyclist to have on-hand should they set-up a new frame or change cables and housing at home.
