Has there been a more iconic sunglass for Boomers, Generation X and beyond than the Ray Ban Wayfarer? Rhetorical questions aside, the Original Wayfarer Classic, released in 1952, and embraced by entertainers and famous personalities, almost immediately claimed icon status, and despite hundreds of imitators, is still a prized possession, seen on streets and beaches around the world, on the faces of all ages. Ray Ban offers the original in several fit options, which increases effective market penetration, and brings smiles to more faces, adding instant cool to just about anyone who wears them.

Unlike many of it's siblings in the Ray Ban family, the Original Wayfarer Classic features an acetate frame and arm construction. In the hand, the acetate has a little more heft than the nylon more commonly used. And even in the Black finish, has a distinct interaction with light, simply adding to it's aura, but this effect is truly impressive in the Tortise frame color. We are offering the Original Wayfarer Classic in both the 50mm and 54mm lens width options, in either Black or Tortoise frames. The smooth curves and shapes of the lenses and frames are still considered "square", but that is really just a classification, not a reality. In both 50mm and 55mm lens versions, the nose bridge is a wide 22mm, which allows for wearing them low on the nose or up tight, depending your desired effect: studied casual, or indifferent formality. That is also reflected in the longish 150mm temple arm length which gives you options and hold. Besides the indelible shape of the lenses and frame, it is important to point out that the tapered, bold arm design has been equally important to the success of the Wayfarer, and it may have been copied more than the lens shape over the years. Never has a folded sunglass been so stylish or balanced.

We opted to bring in the two frame colors and lens sizes in only one lens option, the Green Classic G-15 for the simple reason that this is how the original Wayfarer was offered. The Green Classic G-15, long a favorite of Ray Ban- genuine since 1937, the classic G-15 was originally developed for military use, and offers a high level of clarity, comfort and protection. The VLT is 15% making it great for high sun but the lens shade is surprisingly good in mixed light conditions as well. By absorbing 85% of visible light and blocking out most of the blue light, the green lenses provide remarkable color contrast. G-15 green lenses ensure better clarity of vision and a more "natural vision" that is easy on the eyes. The lenses are more versatile than you'd think, effective in high sun or mixed conditions.

When we had the opportunity to offer Ray Ban, we knew the Wayfarer design would feature heavily. As much as we prefer to offer sport specific products, Made in Italy, the popularity, quality, and sheer pleasure of the iconic Wayfarer was impossible to pass up. We hope you feel the same way.
