Description

The Reynolds ATR (All Terrain Road) was built specifically for the exploding gravel road bike market, but are equally suited to mainstream cyclocross. Reynolds built the ATR with a robust, wider rim to better accommodate larger volume gravel and cyclocross tires. The external width is 32mm allowing the tire casing to deliver a larger contact patch with the ground surface. This produces multiple benefits such as lower rolling resistance, reduced tire flop, improved cornering grip, and excellent stability in all conditions. The wide, 23mm internal rim diameter larger tires also increase the available amount of potential air volume, which in turn allows the tire to be run at lower pressure for an even larger footprint. This lower pressure offers greater surface adherence, especially on gravel or rocky, rooty terrain. On firmer, but rough surfaces this means that the bumps will be smoothed out, which improves comfort and rider safety, especially on the long hauls gravel riders crave.

Reynolds wheels use some of the leading wheel-related carbon fiber technology. Specifically employed for the 40mm section ATR rims, PR3 construction is the precise method of assigning different carbon fiber and lay-ups to 3 primary rim regions. So the side wall, rim hook bead and tire channel all use an optimized material blend unique to the physical requirements of each area. Reynolds specifies type of fiber, epoxy and resin adjusting the specs to achieve the perfect tensile strength, stiffness and elongation for each rim region and model. Each batch is quality certified according to Reynolds' specifications.

Axle compatibility is for a 12/100mm thru axle on the front and 12/142mm for the rear. Reynolds chose Center Lock disc brake compatibility for a little bit of a weight advantage versus 6 bolt. Center Lock disc brake compatibility also means you can use many good options available in the easy to install/remove system, which deliver excellent stopping power and control while ensuring heat dissipation and maximum disc brake performance. Adapters can be run to use 6-bolt rotors on the Center Lock spline system.

The ATR wheels are tubeless compatible and can be used with a tubeless compatible tire and sealant to negate most pinch and puncture flats. Like all road tubeless wheels, the ATR wheels can be used with a standard clincher and inner tube. Included with the wheels are tubeless tape and valve stems. If you are ready for your next 200 mile gravel race, or planning to race a season of cyclocross, and want a durable, light, and comfortable disc wheel set, the Reynolds ATR is a great option, and an excellent value.
