The 46 Aero's CR6 carbon rims feature six different and segmented zones that each get the appropriate type and amount of carbon fiber, resin and epoxy for the loads and stresses of each zone. This process works to achieve the perfect tensile strength, stiffness and elongation the 46mm deep rim, which is lighter in the disc-only version. Again, the internal width is 19mm, and the widest external width is 28mm, which is the perfect complement to the 46mm profile. The bow shape of the rim is defined by the aerodynamics at play. Reynolds uses the same DET™ system employed in their top-end RZR wheels. Dispersive Effect Termination smooths turbulent, excited, energized airflow and re-attaches it to the aerodynamic surface, effectively reducing aerodynamic drag, and reducing buffering at yaw angles of side winds, keeping the wheels more stable in such conditions, and continually gaining energy and speed from the re-attachment process. The overall effect is a fast, stable wheel that keeps the rider focused on power output and the road ahead, and not the conditions.

Speed and stability are one thing, but braking and emergency stopping is equally crucial to race success, and while the CTg rim brake version is impressive there are just so many advantages to disc braking, especially with the tubeless ready carbon rim. The aforementioned rotational weight reduction is one, but so is the all-conditions disc brake performance, as well as zero heat build-up in the rim. The disc only rim is also more resilient, with added compliance and overall strength, so it tends to ride smoother, a feature enhanced by the tubeless option and higher volume tires. Said tires also have been proven to be more aerodynamic with wider rim structures as well.

The high-quality machined alloy Reynolds/Industry Nine hubs is perfectly machined and finished for success. The hubs have super clean straight pull spoke access, oversized alloy axles, premium steel sealed cartridge bearings, while the rear features the stunning I9 freehub 6 degree engagement from it's 3-pawl interchangeable freehub . Bearings are buttery smooth and durable long term.g forward. Reynolds opted for the black stainless steel straight pull spokes. The internal nipples feature a hex head design for sure tensioning and truing under high force load. The front wheel has 20 spokes, laced 2x/2x, which disappear into both the rim and the hub. The rear features 24 spokes, and both sides are again laced 2x for excellent, even high tension, delivering rapid acceleration, adding compliance, and countering disc brake forces.

For the Aero 46 TL Disc Carbon Wheelset Reynolds opted for standard thru-axle hub set-ups front and rear. The 12/100mm front and 12/142mm rear thru-axle dropout systems have become the best option for road and tri bikes, and the I9 hubs also offer you endcap flexibility should you require endcaps for quick release use or a 15/100mm front thru-axle option. Reynolds sets-up the wheels with their tubeless tape and valve system that works great with tubeless ready road-allroad tires. Standard clinchers with tubes are an option as well.
