Description

Wide handlebars changed how mountain bikes handle technical terrain, but there's a point where additional width creates more problems than it solves—leverage that fights you in tight spaces, shoulder strain on longer rides, and bar ends catching every tree on narrow singletrack. The Ritchey Comp Kyote sits at 800mm, a width that provides the control advantages of modern bar geometry while remaining practical for trails that weren't designed around downhill racing dimensions. This is Ritchey's interpretation of the wide-bar concept filtered through decades of cross-country and trail riding experience rather than gravity-focused development.

The defining characteristic of the Kyote is its 30-degree backsweep, which pulls your hands rearward into a more natural wrist position than the typical 8 to 9 degrees found on most flat and riser bars. That sweep angle changes your relationship to the front end—weight distribution shifts slightly rearward, wrists sit in a neutral orientation that reduces fatigue, and the overall position opens your chest for easier breathing on climbs. Riders coming from conventional bars need a few rides to recalibrate their muscle memory, but the ergonomic payoff becomes apparent on longer outings where standard sweep angles leave your wrists aching.

Construction uses double-butted 7050 aluminum with a 31.8mm clamp diameter, balancing weight savings against the structural demands of a handlebar this wide. The 20mm rise keeps the overall height moderate—enough to lift the grip position without dramatically affecting cockpit geometry. Ritchey designed the Kyote around their Trail blending approach, meaning it pairs logically with aggressive hardtails and shorter-travel trail bikes where the backsweep philosophy matches the intended riding style....
