Description
Ritchey knows how to make affordable, lightweight, high performance pedals. This is not news to any Ritchey fan. The WCS Echelon Road Pedals carry on a long tradition, and might not only be the best road pedal they have made, but one of the best lightweight pedals available under $200, period. The UD carbon body is stiff, light, and strong, and a replaceable stainless steel wear plate ensures the body won't get sloppy when worn. Retention is easily adjustable, with a solid range available, including a serious max tension for sprinters.
The axle is super strong CroMoly steel and rides on three bearing systems. The outer bearing, which carries much the stress load, is a sealed cartridge unit. Fine needle bearings in the center keep the movement smooth and balanced, and a bushing serves the lighter load requirements closer to the crank arm. This a smooth, durable, and long lasting set-up. Ritchey supplies a pair of cleats that offer seven degrees of float; and Look Keo cleats of all float ranges are compatible. The cleat interface places the shoe very close to the pedal axle for maximum energy transmission efficiency. The stiff UD carbon body transfer this power along the axle to the crank arm. At 220 grams per set, you will be hard-pressed to find a competitively featured pedal under $200.
