The SLR Friction Free Flow Saddle from Selle Italia is a variation on the SLR Friction Free design. Some traditionalists have expressed doubt at changing the shape of the venerated minimalist SLR racing saddle. But, as with other concepts, such as the Flow relief channel, the Italian manufacturer has always sought to address issues or needs of the cyclists who support the company. The Friction Free concept was developed to create more freedom of movement from the thighs on the saddle itself. Now, this doesn't mean these riders are bigger, but let's face it, cyclists often have large quadriceps relative to their overall body type. In order to reduce friction, and ensure a smooth, powerful pedal stroke, the central section of the saddle has been narrowed all the way through the nose. The tail remains the same as the standard SLR, at 131mm. The effect is visually striking, but for riders who require a cleaner path to the pedals, the clearance is the most important aspect of the design.

There are a few other differences from the standard SLR Flow. First, the rails are the 7mm round, solid version, not the hollow tube. Second, the back of the saddle is actually flatter than the standard SLR, to support the glutes more effectively given the minimized platform. Third the shell is stiffer overall, to keep flex manageable due to the narrower structure. At just 185 grams, this is not a heavy saddle by any means, just 15 grams heavier than the standard SLR Flow.
