Description
Saddles have always been defined by fit and function. If a saddle doesn't fit or ride like you require it to, you won't ride, or be miserable in the process. If you started riding in the early 80's there is a good chance you rode, or tried, a Selle Italia Turbo saddle. This is a reissue of the most popular saddle ever made. Unlike other vintage remakes, these Turbo saddles are almost identical to the original design with slight adjustments to the construction process. Though the original featured leather, the reissue comes with a nubuck microfiber finish that wears quickly into a smooth, waterproof cover after use.
First introduced in 1980, the Selle Italia Turbo ruled the 80's and early 90's peloton. True, some pros opted for a Rolls, Regal or Concor, but no saddle to this day was ever as popular as the Turbo during it's reign. The Turbo 1980 is fully worked by craftsmen, with differentiated padding on a resilient, anatomically designed nylon shell that is covered in a waterproof, hard wearing microfiber cover. If it suits your body shape and riding style, and you're not counting grams, it's a great choice. The Turbo has truly stood up to the test of time and the last of the great pre-Flite era saddles.
The Turbo rap sheet: Ridden by Greg Lemond on his 1983 Worlds winning bike, Bernard Hinault in several successful TdF bids, Lauren Fignon in his Vuelta and TdF winning rides, Big Mig on all his TdF victories and many more. And all that is fantastic, as our customers let us know that history is part of the buying decision.
