Description
That faint rattle coming from inside your downtube probably isn't a loose headset or creaky bottom bracket. On bikes with internally routed Di2, the culprit is often an E-Tube wire bouncing against the inside of the frame tube. Every bump in the road sends the wire swinging, and over time that contact can wear through the outer jacket and create real problems. The Shimano EW-SD50-I Wire Holder exists specifically to prevent this—a simple plastic clip that secures the wire and keeps it suspended away from the tube walls.
Each holder uses a C-shaped clip that wraps around the 2mm diameter of an EW-SD50 wire without pinching or damaging it. The flexible arms on either side press outward against the inside of the frame tube, creating enough friction to hold the wire in place but remaining supple enough that you can reposition or remove the holder during future service. You're not permanently committing to a routing path when you install these. If you need to pull wires later for a component swap or troubleshooting, the holders come off and go back on without losing their grip.
Shimano sells these in packs of 20, which sounds like a lot until you start spacing them out along a full internal routing run. The general rule is more holders rather than fewer, especially through sections where the frame tube narrows or bends and the wire might otherwise contact the walls. Downtubes, seat tubes, and chainstays all benefit from holders placed every 100 to 150mm. If you've inherited a Di2 bike that rattles or you're building up a frameset from scratch, this pack gives you enough to do the job properly with spares left over for future projects.
