Dura-Ace FC-9100 Inner Chainring
Description
Chainring wear tends to sneak up on riders — the shifts get a little sloppier, the chain skips under load on the small ring, and eventually you're chasing a problem that started at the teeth rather than the cable. Shimano's Dura-Ace FC-R9100 Inner Chainring is the direct replacement for the small ring on FC-R9100 and FC-R9100-P 11-speed cranksets, available in 34T, 36T, 39T, and 42T to match whatever outer ring you're running.
The inner ring bolts to the crankset's 110mm asymmetric 4-arm spider, which is the same interface Shimano introduced with the 9000 generation to unify compact and standard gearing on a single crank. That's what lets you switch a 50-34T setup over to 52-36T or 53-39T without buying new crank arms — swap both rings and you've reconfigured the drivetrain. The catch is that inner and outer rings are engineered as a matched pair, with shift ramps and pickup pins timed to work together. A 34T inner belongs with a 50T outer, a 36T with a 52T, a 39T with a 53T, and the 42T pairs with either the 54T or 55T outer for standard and high-speed configurations. Mixing tooth counts outside those combinations means the shift timing won't line up and front shifts will suffer.
One thing worth knowing before you order: this is an 11-speed component built specifically for the R9100 mechanical crankset and the R9100-P powermeter version. It is not the 12-speed R9200 ring, and the two generations don't interchange. If you're on 9000-series cranks, the R9100 inner sits slightly further inboard than the 9000 ring did, which the R9100 and R9150 front derailleurs are already set up to expect.
