With the release of Shimano's XTR M9100 series components, the Japanese component giant added the MT900-series 1x12 speed crankset as a supplemental option that features a wider 172mm Q-factor, and O.L.D. compatibility of both 142 and 148mm. Like the M9100, the FC-MT900-1 features the redesigned direct mount spline chainring system, is a full-on Hollowtech II arm/spindle model, and is comparable in all other ways to XTR. Shimano often offers such non-line components to offer a bridge between lines or models or to make ways for special designs or standards.

Sold here as a complete arm and ring crankset, the FC-MT900-1 Crankset is ready to ride. The design is compatible with external bearing threaded bottom brackets for both 68 and 73mm wide BB shells, as well as the Press Fit SM-BB94-41A bottom bracket. The hollow aluminum arms are XTR-level in weight, stiffness, and torsion resistance, as is the hollow steel spindle. The new direct mount system requires the TL-FC41 Chainring Mounting Tool, which in the early release is included with the crankset. The single ring chainring itself is another masterpiece of stout and long wearing Shimano aluminum construction, and features the Dynamic Chain Engagement system. The DCE was developed as Shimano's 1x chainring tooth profile, which has proven highly effective and won't overly stress or wear chains in the process. Of course chainline, proper chain and cassette, and some routine maintenance all contribute to chain health and your well-being as well. The 12-speed Shimano mountain drivetrains require the 12-speed Hyperglide+ chain. The effective chainline for the FC-MT900-1 Crankset is 52mm.

You get the same quality and technology as the M9100 series cranksets with the FC-MT900-1 without the XTR badge or price, along with a sleek black finish. Just keep in mind that the 172mm Q-factor is 4mm wider than the M9120 trail model crankset, and 10mm wider than the XC-oriented M9100 version.
