This entry level road shoe from Shimano represents the best of the trickle-down theory. In this price point, you won't find a better combination of features and function, all with Shimano's high quality standards. The RO65 offers a dual-use sole with both and SPD (2-bolt), and SPD-SL (3-bolt) cleat interfaces. The shoe has a supple synthetic upper, glass fiber reinforced nylon sole, thru-sole ventilation, and two simple, yet strategic anatomically placed hook and loop closures. It is ideal for someone looking for a shoe for spinning, an entry-level road cyclist, or any cyclist with a limited budget.

The RO65 is perfectly paired with a Shimano 105 level R550 pedal (featuring 3-bolt type cleats) and can directly mate to 2-bolt SPD (SH51, SH56) cleats. Shimano highly recommends the use with an SM-SH40 adapter kit (sold separately), which creates a recessed space and safety for walking. Though it is on strictly required, it is quite challenging to walk on smooth soled shoes with an SPD cleat, and both the cleat and walking surfaces will take a beating.

Shimano's Dynafit anatomic footbed and overall shape carry over from their higher end shoes, though this version is more forgiving for higher volume feet. The two straps are long enough to accommodate more volume, and align in a comfortable, secure position across the top of the foot. A synthetic mesh is used within the upper to allow for adequate airflow onto the top of the foot, and within the sole itself, an front intake port brings air into the sole to relieve the bottom of the foot, and allows it to escape out the rear exhaust channel. A soft rubber smooth cleated heel and slightly firmer toe tap keep walking and putting your toe down when stopped much safer and comfortable.
