Description
The tricky part of a sprint or a fast descent isn't the shift itself — it's deciding whether to give up your position in the drops to reach the main lever paddles. Shimano built the SW-R610 to remove that decision entirely, adding a pair of momentary buttons that mount under the bar tape in the drop section so a thumb press handles the gear change while your hands stay planted. It's a small addition to an 11-speed Di2 build that changes how you approach any effort where hand position matters.
Each switch plugs directly into a dedicated port on a compatible 11-speed Di2 STI lever, so there are no junction boxes to add and no extra E-Tube wires to route. The left switch handles upshifts and the right handles downshifts by default, matching the logic of the main levers, and the assignment can be reconfigured through Shimano's E-Tube programming if you prefer a different setup. Because it's Di2, the shift executes cleanly regardless of chain load or cadence.
Compatibility is worth confirming before you order. The SW-R610 works with 11-speed Di2 Dual Control levers including ST-9070, ST-6870, and ST-R785, but it will not work with the older 10-speed ST-7970 or ST-6770 levers or with the newer 12-speed Dura-Ace and Ultegra systems that use the SD-300 wire protocol.
