Description

Having versatile, proper tools for the job may not only be desirable, but also crucial given the nature of proprietary bike equipment. Shimano's TL-FC31 is actually a two tool set of headset and pedal wrenches. Why two tools? Many older threaded headsets employed a fixed nut and a locknut, so a mechanic needs two tools to adjust these headsets properly. As such, each tool of the TL-FC31 Headset-Pedal Wrench Set has a 32mm low profile wrench flat on one end for such adjustments. The second end of each tool handle also features a secondary tool function.
The pedal wrench has a 15mm pedal wrench interface for 9/16 or 15mm pedal axles. The other tool offsets its 32mm flat with a bottom bracket removal tool for the Shimano BB-7700 Dura-Ace or M950 XTR Octalink-style and many older square taper bottom bracket cups/lockrings. So you get four tools from the two handles. Shimano makes these precisely formed tools from heat-treated carbon steel, which is them chrome plated for durability and corrosion resistance. These are tools that will last a lifetime, and with so many enthusiasts refurbishing or restoring older steel frames with threaded headsets, the TL-FC31 Headset-Pedal Wrench Set will get plenty of use. Each tool also features a hole near the 32mm end for convenient hanging on a bench wall.
