Specialized's Bar Phat has undergone several optimizations since it was first released, but the concept and desired characteristics have never changed. Informed by the overarching comfort and protection direction of the Body Geometry research and development, Bar Phat has been a key component for many cyclists who suffer have suffered from nerve damage, arthritis or other afflictions such as carpal tunnel syndrome. It has also been a tool of those who would prefer to prevent such issues. Not convinced? Body Geometry Bar Phat in the 4.5mm thickness has been proven to reduce hand pressure by up to 50%. Truly, and although it comes here with Specialized's suede-textured Roubaix bar tape, it can be used with whatever product you prefer.
Bar Phat is clear, shock-absorbing gel pads cut to fit both road handlebar tops and drops- but only the rider facing section- not all the way around. It is available in two thicknesses: 2.5 and 4.5 mm. The gel pad design can be trimmed to best fit the size and shapes of your bar, as well as being reusable if you change bars. It can also be used on aero bar set-ups.
