DT Swiss machines the axle and handle from aluminum for the optimal combination of strength, stiffness and light weight. The thru-axle threads into the threaded receiver on the opposite fork blade until tight. The lever handle itself features an internal spline system. You simply pull the spring loaded lever out away from the hub, which disengages the internal spline, allowing you to position the lever as desired. Release the handle and it re-engages with the spline for a secure hold.
