Softshell fabrics generally feature a two or three layer fabric system that enables the outer layer to block the elements to some degree while allowing moisture and excess heat to escape through the layers. This type of membrane system is effective for cycling thanks to the combination. The textiles are supple and flexible, and are often used in complementary systems. The RBX Comp Softshell Jacket features the protection grade textile on the front, for proper blocking of wind and water thanks to a polyurethane surface. The rear facing and side zones still block some water, but are more breathable to release the excess heat and moisture. The front is slightly less supple but overall the piece is comfortable and actively wearable, with a semi-form fit that allows for a layer or two underneath.
