Description

This bike was an Excel Sports DEMO build from the frame up and not a complete Specialized package. There are several variations from the 2021 Specialized offering. All specifications are listed below. race-optimized S-Works Tarmac SL7 DEMO comes equipped with Shimano's Dura-Ace R9170 Di2 shifting / hydraulic disc braking, and a 3T Discus 45|40 Carbon wheelset. It is in Great to Excellent condition after mild use and the frameset is under warranty. Our expert service staff have built and serviced this bike, and conducted a comprehensive check before being listed for sale.

The DEMO starts with, and is built around, the S-Works Tarmac SL7 frameset, perhaps the most efficient and perfectly balanced race platform developed to date. The accolades just keep rolling in, as do podiums and stage wins. What did it take? Decades of experience building racing bikes. Countless examples of rider feedback, desires, and impressions. Pure science and engineering. Every frame, regardless of size getting specific fiber schedules and lay-up. One design that comes in right at the UCI weight limit with zero compromise between light weight and aerodynamics.

Specialized utilized their most advanced technologies and learned knowledge in delivering a race bike that is truly without compromise. It has been suggested the Tarmac SL7 is a combination of the Venge and the SL6, but it isn't that simple in reality. Aero road has been a driving force behind Specialized's recent bike development and their design engineers have developed and tested many shapes and combinations to get it right. They took a page from the Venge development process and utilized the already proven FreeFoil Shape Library. Armed with optimized information, they turned to their Win Tunnel to plug these shapes into a modular test bike for more testing and validation. The result? A new Tarmac that’s the fastest they've tested- 45 seconds faster over 40km than the Tarmac SL6 (with the Aerofly II handlebar in test).

While aerodynamics were paramount to Tarmac SL7 development, weight was always considered on this journey to an optimal race bike. The design philosophy was to keep weight at, or below, the UCI weight limit as a complete build, with no sacrifices to aerodynamics. Tools like isotopic FEA analysis, used in conjunction with tube shapes and some engineering wizardry by the best team in the industry, enabled Specialized to deliver a frame that weighs 800 grams, consistently across sizes, without giving up a gram of aero, stiffness or ride performance while allowing for 700x32 tires. The primary ingredient in all this has been their FACT 12r Carbon, which was developed to provide the lightest ideal combination of fiber properties that are the foundation of the lay-up schedule, to deliver the tubeset and junctions that make the SL7 unique.

Finishing off the S-Works Tarmac SL7 frameset, a simpler integration design to create a clean, fast, modular cockpit. The team improved the routing for any configuration, mechanical shifting, integrated but individual stem, bar, etc., all while meeting aerodynamic goals. A BSC threaded bottom bracket shell was integrated to the highest standards of stiffness and power transfer. The frame features a 12/142mm rear thru-axle and flat mount caliper set-up, which aligns the S-Works FACT Carbon Fork with at 12/100mm. The lightweight and upper-section compliant S-Works FACT Carbon Tarmac Seatpost is included, as is 6-degree Tarmac integrated stem, in this case a 110mm.

Shimano's Dura-Ace Di2 system and R9100-series components delivered the best 11-speed shifting and braking performance the industry had seen through the release of the Tarmac SL7 and was perfect for this premium race complete DEMO bike. A 50-34T, 175mm crankset is matched to an 11-30T cassette for a tighter shifting group and the range required by a racing cyclist or serious enthusiast for rolling or steep hills. 30mm Schwalbe Pro One Race tires are set-up tubeless on 3T's Discus 45|40 Carbon wheelset, which offers a fantastic 29mm internal rim width for higher volume road tires. A Cervelo AB09 Carbon bar is carried by the integrated Tarmac stem design, and the S-Works Tarmac seatpost features a San Marco Aspide Carbon FX saddle. The DEMO bike can be seen in our Boulder, CO showroom and our Sales staff can answer any questions via sales@excelsports.com or over the phone at 800.627.6664.
