Description
SRAM's Eagle drivetrain system sets a new benchmark for range and effectiveness with a 1x drivetrain due to an amazing 10-50 12-speed cassette. The XX1 Eagle is top of the line with improvements across the board. The XX1 Eagle GXP Crankset features new SRAM carbon construction for lighter weight with durability and stiffness that erases the need for XC and Trail versions. This crankset includes the 12-speed compatible Direct Mount X-SYNC™ 2 chainring for frames with a standard 49mm chainline. SRAM's goals with XX1 Eagle was to build an XC drivetrain with a combination of simple functionality, light weight, highly efficient and quiet operation and long lasting performance. Carrying over the concepts that have made SRAM's mountain drivetrains so popular, such as the X-ACTUATION™ trigger shifter design, 1:1 cable pull ratio, and X-HORIZON 1x optimized rear derailleur system, you get tried and true technology that has been refined and maximized for XX1 Eagle.
Some folks wonder why SRAM still offers the GXP standard crank design, but the reality is there are many frames out there that still feature threaded bottom bracket shells. Given the challenges frame manufacturers have had getting PF30 designs to stay quiet, this is no surprise. Plus there are frame building advantages for using ISCG 5 compatible chain guides. Know that SRAM has designed XX1 Eagle to be run without a guard, but some riders like insurance. Thousands of hours of wear evaluation from 11-speed 1x chainrings helped SRAM to evolve and re-engineer the X-Sync tooth profiling, and this second generation has some serious new shaping and teeth that hold the newly designed Eagle chain perfectly, at any and all angles, in any ring and cog combination. All Eagle chainrings install with SRAM's Direct Mount system, which makes installing or changing rings simple and fast, and delivers an incredibly stout interface that is carried through the machining of the entire ring. This particular XX1 Eagle 12-Speed GXP Crankset comes with the standard 49mm chainline version of the ring. Please keep in mind that with SRAM, Boost spacing is created with a 3mm offset built into the ring itself. If you need to replace for the 49mm chainline, you buy the standard version, and if you get a new frame with Boost spacing all you have to do is get the Boost 52mm chainline ring.
The stepped 24mm crank axle fits all GXP mountain bottom bracket cups, of which SRAM offers many choices. There are also many aftermarket versions for stepped 24mm axles as well. In order to build the carbon crank arm assembly to work with the machined ring mount and axle, and still meet the lightweight, stiff and efficient requirements, SRAM employed a new internal hollow core carbon architecture and overall carbon design referred to as Carbon Tuned. A new carbon lay-up was devised to find the right balance, and the internal structure augments the stiffness of the arm shape, as well as adding durability. SRAM is also providing injection molded guards that slip over the end of the crank arm for impact protection. Once you install your pedal, the guard is secure in place and actually can handle serious abuse. This is no rubber boot.
Every aspect of the SRAM XX1 Eagle 12-Speed GXP Crankset has extraordinary finish and quality construction you'd expect in SRAM's top line cranksets. Performance is flawless, and regular SRAM 1x riders will be surprised at how quietly the new ring and chain function, with zero-drop reliability. If you have a threaded bottom bracket frame or simply prefer a GXP-style spindle system, and are ready for a 32t ring and 10-50 cassette, we have the ultimate crankset for you. XX1 Eagle soars above expectations. Will you take flight with it?
