Description
The TIME Alpe D'Huez 21 frameset offers a refined approach to lightweight performance, making advanced cycling technology more accessible. Unlike the Alpe D'Huez 01, which utilizes Vectran© fibers, the Alpe D'Huez 21 integrates a blend of Basalt filaments with a mix of high-modulus and high-strength carbon fibers. This modified layup enhances the ride's comfort and smoothness while maintaining excellent acceleration and handling. If the Alpe D'Huez 01 is akin to a high-performance supercar, the Alpe D'Huez 21 can be compared to a V10 performance sedan, providing a balance of efficiency and ride quality.
The frame continues to utilize TIME’s advanced BCS (Braided Carbon Structure) technology. This method involves weaving dry carbon fibers into complex bi-directional socks, which can be finely tuned with various materials. TIME’s approach, using up to 16 filaments, ensures that the fibers run continuously the full length of the frame, unlike traditional prepreg layups where fibers end abruptly. This innovative process eliminates potential weaknesses, contributing to the frame’s overall strength and reliability, setting TIME apart from many other manufacturers in the cycling industry.
Additionally, the Alpe D'Huez 21 incorporates the Resin Transfer Molding (RTM) process to further enhance frame quality. By laying up dry fibers and injecting resin at high pressure between both external and internal molds, RTM effectively removes air pockets and voids, ensuring a consistent and defect-free structure. This technique, commonly used in aerospace and high-end automotive industries, is rare in cycling but provides a near-finished, uniformly high-quality product. The integration of RTM into the Alpe D'Huez 21 underscores TIME’s commitment to innovative engineering and exceptional performance in their cycling frames.
