Description

The Volt Saddle has been successful for WTB with mountain riders and road cyclists because it is sort of the Goldilock's option. Not too long, not too short. Not too firm, not too soft. Some tail lift, but not too much. It makes sense to take the best features of several WTB options and to make one saddle that not only completely integrates the key design cues, but develops its own identity in the product line. The end result is a saddle that has an identifiable seating position, but doesn't lock you in. It has thin-line padding, yet feels like more. The bone structure support is excellent from the flatter top design, and the central relief channel eases pressure, yet the Volt has no hard edges and many curves. At 265mm long, the Volt offers a reasonable platform for movement, and is easy to maneuver around when not seated.
WTB is offering the Volt in several options and we have brought in the Carbon and Team versions in the 135mm width. The Carbon has a 7x9 oval carbon rails and a carbon shell, weighing in at just 148 grams. The Team has titanium rails with a Flex-Tuned composite shell and stays light at 200 grams. Both versions feature a durable WTB microfiber cover and dense thin-line DNA padding.
There are saddles out there that work for specific body types and cycling styles. You have seen them- super specific shapes, with dedicated concepts. Some look interesting and are worth a try, others- not so much. The Volt is vanilla, but that is what is great about it. Rider who still rock old-school rounded saddles won't care for it, but almost everyone else can get on it and ride it without issues. It might not be the favorite for some, but many riders just fall in love with it. It isn't a board. It has shape, curves, a reasonable tail, a quick taper for a clean leg slot, a nose wide enough to pull forward onto for power zone efforts, with thin padding that is light, dense and really works.
For all disciplines, this is a saddle for those with a narrow sitbone structure, as the 135mm width indicates. WTB does offer width versions in the Team model and others, but we offering the Narrow size. There is central depression channel that runs from the tail to just past the mid point. WTB patterns texture into the microfiber cover that provide grip so you don't slide unnecessarily, but won't restrict purposeful movement either. Abrasion resistant edges wrap the back and sides of the tail to prevent abrasion. Both the carbon rail and titanium rail versions do soak up some vibration, with the Team (titanium rail) offering a little more give with the more supple rails and Flex-Tuned shell.
When the Volt was first released it was marketed towards the XC mountain world. It's lightweight, moderate length and fit was perfect for many riders. The roadies got on board- for the same reasons. Cyclocross was next, and now we are hearing that adventure and gravel road cyclists are clamoring for it. Saddles are ultimately a personal choice, and some riders never find a favorite, but when you do, you put the saddle on every bike you own, and buy a few to store in case it goes away. The Volt is that saddle for many cyclists. WTB makes durable, high quality saddles and has influenced the development of flatter platform and sitbone- lifting designs that make up the vast majority of the saddle market these days. It is our experience that WTB saddle riders are one of the most loyal constituencies out there. Not happy with your saddle, you need to try a Volt. And if it is "just right" , start outfitting all of your bikes.
